Abdullah Gül University (AGU) achieved significant international success by ranking in the 801–1000 band in the 2026 World University Rankings announced by Times Higher Education (THE), one of the world's most prestigious higher education ranking organizations based in the UK.
Ranked for the first time this year, AGU made it into the top 1000 among 2,191 universities from 115 countries, placing 9th among Turkish universities on the list.
The ranking was announced at the World Academic Summit held in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. Universities were evaluated in five main categories: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry connections.
AGU succeeded in making a name for itself on a global scale by entering the top 1000 universities with its strong performance in these categories.
Along with AGU, the following universities from Turkey entered the top 1000:
Koç, METU, Sabancı, Boğaziçi, İTÜ, Bilkent, Kadir Has, Yıldız Teknik, Atatürk, Bahçeşehir, Çankaya, Hacettepe, İstanbul Medipol, and Özyeğin Universities.

Assessing the international success achieved, AGU Rector Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yılmaz said, “Our steady rise continues.”
Prof. Dr. Yılmaz said, “AGU's emergence among thousands of universities in Turkey and around the world and its attainment of a reputable position internationally is the result of accurately reading the transformation process of global higher education and the systematic work carried out.”
Noting that AGU has attracted attention with its contributions to society and its high-profile academic work, Yılmaz said, “As a young university, we are successfully continuing our branding process on the international platform. We aim to rank much higher on this list in the future.”
