Abdullah Gül University (AGU) took the prize for Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership of the Year in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia.

AGU, nominated for Asian awards with its multidimensional approach to climate change and the strategy of achieving excellence, secured the top position after a thorough evaluation.
Rector Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yılmaz shared that Abdullah Gül University achieved this success thanks to their work such as the Strategic Plan and projects such as Climate Action Plan (CAP), Zero Waste, and Smart Building (LEED) Certificate, and ISO 14064:2018 Certificate.
Dr. Yılmaz indicated that they are walking towards their goal with concrete steps, and stated that with the Innovative University Model they created, they aim to take environmental and social impact to a higher level and integrate it with education. He also noted that they implemented various projects and teaching and research practices to increase all stakeholders' awareness of the environment.
Rector Yılmaz also added that while implementing these projects, the University cooperates and collaborates with international organizations such as SDG Universities, Global Solutions Initiatives (GSI), and Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), as well as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and UN Academic Impact.
AGU has also recently placed among the top 200 universities in the world in the 2023 Social Impact Ranking of Times Higher Education and ranked 15th in the 2023 WURI (World Innovative Universities) List. AGU, which surpassed the world's most renowned universities, such as Cambridge, Oxford, and Yale, ranked first in the Student Mobility and Accessibility category of WURI 2023.
