At the Mechanical Engineering Labs of Abdullah Gül University (AGU), face masks and shield are being produced 24/7 with the 3D printers belonging to the departments of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Architecture.
While the Covid-19 pandemic has been spreading in our country and around the world, personal hygiene and personal protective equipment have become critical. Abdullah Gül University is now supporting health workers in this regard.
The AGU Mechanical Engineering has begun manufacturing personal protective equipment for health workers to meet their need of face masks and shields.
Face masks and shields are being produced by students at the Mechanical Engineering Labs using 3D printers of the Industrial Engineering and Architecture.
The face shields will be given to health workers as donations and are being produced by volunteers using the finances of Abdullah Gül University. The manufacturing is conducted as part of the "3-dimensional support society" established by individuals with possession of 3D printers in Turkey to lend support to health workers.
Face masks and shields are being manufactured by Pakistani nationals Fasih Munir Malik and Syed Faiz Ali, both Mechanical Engineering students of AGU, under the supervision of Prof. Emin Faruk Keçeci at Abdullah Gül University, which has the highest number of 3D printers, twenty-eight, in Turkey.
Prof. Keçeci, faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering, stated that he was particularly pleased that international students were volunteers for the task and showing their support to health workers in Kayseri.
Prof. Keçeci highlighted that 4 thousand 300 hundred employees at the Kayseri City Hospital were in need of more than 3 thousand face shields and masks, and other health institutions needed over 4 thousand equipment of the same type. Prof. Keçeci promised to send the equipment being manufactured to these institutions.
For this aim, Prof. Keçeci said, 28 3D printers are being used simultaneously 24/7 at the innovation labs of the Mechanical Engineering.
