Problems and solution suggestions regarding youth employment around the world were discussed at the symposium organized at Abdullah Gül University (AGU).

Held for the second time this year by AGU Youth Factory, the International Symposium on Youth Employment Challenges (ISYEC 2016) was organized jointly by the Ministry of European Union Affairs, Turkish National Agency, French National Agency and Italian National Agency with the participation of SALTO-Youth Euromed Resource Center on behalf of the European Commission.

The symposium started with the participants from 33 countries including Portugal, Denmark, Czech Republic, Morocco, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Egypt and Germany in the Rectorate Conference Hall on the Sumer Campus.

Although 11th President Abdullah Gül was abroad due to an international meeting, he sent a video message for the symposium.

In the video message, Gül said that one purpose of establishing such a university in the middle of Anatolia was bringing together public and private sectors on an international platform for the benefit of the youth and for that reason he personally supported the ISYEC International Conference series realized by AGU Youth Factory.

Stating that the high rate of youth unemployment was one of the challenges faced in our day and threatening our future, Gül also said they had to bring together various sectors together to solve that problem and promote smart solutions in a proactive manner.

Gül added that for that reason he believed ISYEC 2016 to be the perfect platform.

Giving the opening speech and making a presentation at the symposium, Rector Prof. Sabuncuoğlu said the whole world was undergoing a period of change and as a result of that, universities, higher education systems, and even companies and institutions were changing.

Prof. Sabuncuoğlu added that in our day companies as well as other institutions and organizations did not look for people with professions and diplomas but wanted to recruit those who were flexible, knowledgeable about everything or could generate an idea, put in creative ideas, were devoted to their professions and dreamed.

Sabuncuoğlu pointed out that the youth needed to keep up with this change.

Later, Mesut Kamiloğlu, Head of the Turkish National Agency, talked about the projects given priority by the National Agency.

Inviting the youth to participate at projects submitted to National Agencies, Kamiloğlu said out of 42 thousand project applications by 32 Erasmus+ member countries in 2016 more than 10 thousand were made by Turkey. Kamiloğlu added that the youth were in search of new opportunities.
