The Department of Industrial Engineering of Abdullah Gül University (AGU) organized the Industry-Focused Student Projects Fair.
At the fair, held for the third time this year, graduate and undergraduate degree students of Industrial Engineering showcased 35 different projects realized with various companies, including AK Frigo, Aspilsan, Bamen, Bellona, Boyçelik, Delphi metal, General Directorate of State Airports Authority in Kayseri, Doqu Home, Durlum, Ferre, HES Kablo, Insider, İstikbal, Kumtel, LC Waikiki, Mars Logistics, Migall, Mundo, Mondihome, Ödül Trophy, Simfer, Selçuk Ecza Deposu, and Yataş.
The fair was held at the Exhibition Hall on the Sümer Campus, and presentations for the fair were in the form of posters prepared within the scope of the courses of Mathematical Modeling, Deterministic Optimization, Decision and Risk Analysis, Business Process Analysis, System Simulation, Business Analytics, and Production and Service Systems Management offered at Industrial Engineering in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years.
The students promoted their projects with poster presentations to other students and guests during the fair. In his opening remarks, Rector Prof. Cengiz Yılmaz stressed the importance of cooperation between the industry and business. He stated that the Department of Industrial Engineering established such cooperation successfully.
Industrial Engineering Chair Prof. İbrahim Akgün also spoke at the fair and remarked that they created various mechanisms to bring students together with the business and industry worlds as much as possible and one such mechanism was creating projects for real-life problems in classrooms. Although this practice increased the workload of the students and academics, it benefited the students immensely in terms of technical and social skills, he added.
Prof. Akgün informed that the practice continued during the pandemic as well and the students produced excellent projects. Moreover, the participation of the institutions and organizations with their executives and representatives in the fair showed how much value they attributed to the matter, he stated. Finally, Prof. Akgün thanked the participants, academics and students of the department, and the dprint company as the fair sponsor.
At the fair, Industrial Engineering students Özgül Demirel, Kübra Kurtoğlu, Gamzenur Arıkan, and Gizem Nur Bozdağ also took the stage to share their experiences while carrying out their projects. The students expressed that although finding companies to work with for their projects, collecting data at those companies, conducting analyses, and creating models and/or products based on the latter were tiresome and challenging for them, those steps turned into a learning process with impressive gains. They added that the positive impact of the learning process was appreciated more with each passing day as they witnessed the improvements in their academic and social skills and received very positive feedback from the companies.
Besides Rector Prof. Cengiz Yılmaz, executives and representatives from ORAN Development Agency, Kayseri Directorate of KOSGEB (Small and Medium Industry Development Organization), KASKİ (Kayseri Water and Sewerage Administration), Kayseri Airport Authority, Aspilsan, Boyteks, Doruk Kağıt, Durlum, Gümüşsuyu, Kayseri Model Factory, Mega metal, Simfer, Spectrum Bilişim, Stryker, and Yataş, academics from Erciyes University and Kayseri University, and academic and students from AGU were present at the fair.
During the fair, the students presented their projects on posters to the guests.
