Abdullah Gül University (AGU) and the Private Secondary School of the TED Kayseri College Foundation jointly organized the Sustainable Development Certificate Program. The certificate program was held online with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations Volunteers Office (UNV) and focused on the theme of “Quality Education.”

The program was led by the Secondary School of the TED Kayseri College Foundation and hosted the “JMUN” student club members of 12 TED schools, including Konya, Afyon, Aliağa, Atakent, Kocaeli, Eskişehir, Batman, Alanya, Sivas, Çorum, and Samsun.

Dr. Şule Akalın, Deputy General Manager responsible for Schools’ Management at Turkish Education Association (TED), thanked the 88 student participants of TED schools in her opening speech for the program and shared information on the association’s work on “Quality Education” in its capacity as a civil society organization.

Dr. Akalın elaborated on TED’s projects in both its schools and the state’s schools to improve the quality of the Turkish education system and offer every child an equal education opportunity in line with its mission and vision since its inception. Additionally, she highlighted the scholarships provided to academically-able children without adequate financial means and answered the students’ questions.

On the second day of the program, Aydan Özkil from the UN Volunteers Office took the floor and raised the students’ awareness about the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Afterward, AGU’s Vice Rector Erk Hacıhasanoğlu and Private Secondary School Manager of the TED Kayseri College Canan Yesbek answered the TED students’ original questions on eradicating poverty, climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, protection of the planet, and peace, justice, and welfare for all individuals.

The certification program will continue focusing on the aims of “Affordable and Clean Energy, Reduced Inequalities, Climate Action, and Life on Land” with the participation of the “JMUN” student club members and teachers from 12 TED schools.

AGU and TED College Hold Awareness Program on Sustainable Development Goals

Abdullah Gül University (AGU) and the Private High School of the TED Kayseri College Foundation jointly organized the Awareness Program on Sustainable Development Goals. The training program was held online with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The training on “Clean Water and Sanitation” was offered to the 9th and 10th year students by Prof. Niğmet Uzal, a faculty member of the Department of Civil Engineering at Abdullah Gül University.

The United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals consist of 17 main topics including but not limited to the eradication of poverty, fight against climate change, quality education, popularizing responsible consumption and production and focus on the resolution of social, cultural, and economic challenges.

After successfully completing the 7-week training program on the goals of Climate Action, Sustainable Cities, and Life on Earth, the students will receive participation certificates from AGU.
