The 17th BETONART Architecture Summer School, organized by the Turkish Cement Manufacturers Association (TÇMB) under the main sponsorship of Çimsa, started at Abdullah Gül University with opening speeches and workshops bringing together architecture students from all corners of Turkey. 25 students selected for this year's BETONART Architecture Summer School met at the Abdullah Gül University Sümer Campus in Kayseri.

Opening speeches of the BETONART Architecture Summer School were delivered by İpek Akpınar, Acting Dean of the Abdullah Gül University (AGU) Architecture Faculty, Sabit Uslu, Head of Training and Acting Director of Energy at TÇMB, Banu Binat, Chief Editor of BETONART Magazine, Assoc. Prof. Burak Asiliskender, Department Chair at the Architecture Faculty of Abdullah Gül University (AGU), and Deniz Aslan, Curator of BETONART Architecture Summer School.

Taking the floor at the opening, İpek Akpınar, Acting Dean of the AGU Architecture Faculty, said: "During the summer school, students will create works from scratch together with their teammates. Having a Summer School experience at the center of Anatolia, together we will create a sustainable story. On behalf of the youth, I extend my gratitude to TÇMB for making concrete a friendly material and Çimsa for putting a lot of efforts in making the Summer School sustainable. I believe that we will have a nice and productive training session with high synergy."

Sabit Uslu, Head of Training and Acting Director of Energy at the Turkish Cement Manufacturers Association (TÇMB), stated that they started the BETONART project with the purpose of supporting social development and added: "Besides contributing to the economy of our country, we also work hard for the education and development of the youth. The BETONART Summer School, which we have organized since 2002, is the best product of that effort. We make possible that young architects step into the professional world and have an acquaintance with cement. We also ensure that the youth enter into a strong and large ecosystem through the BETONART Architecture Summer School and gain experience."

The BETONART Architecture Summer School has been organized for the 17th time this year by the Turkish Cement Manufacturers Association (TÇMB) under the main sponsorship of Çimsa, and is being hosted by Abdullah Gül University in Kayseri on July 17-27, 2018.

Its curators are Deniz Aslan and Nursen Gümüşsoy and moderators are Tomris Akın, Melike Altınışık, Gürkan Okta, Hakan Tüzün Şengün, Birge Yıldırım Okta, Özlem Kevseroğlu and Ayşegül Kıdık. This year's theme is "Beton Olmak, Morfogenetik Bir Yaklaşım" (Being Concrete, a Morphogenetic Approach).

The BETONART accepts students from departments of Architecture, Interior Architecture, Design and Landscape Architecture who have completed the 3rd year of study and will start the 4th one. It will end with an exhibition of students' works to be opened on the last day and a certificate ceremony to follow.
