Abdullah Gül University's (AGU) Mechanical Engineering students, Muammer Kılçık, Derya Değirmenci, Bahri Erkam Yaylamaz, and Merve Irmak, were awarded first prize as a team in one of the TEKNOFEST competitions. Computer Engineering student Süleyman Poyraz joined another competition solo and won 2nd place.

2021 TEKNOFEST was held at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, and the AGU students participating in this year's tech competitions collected awards from two separate categories.

The team VEGA consisting of Mechanical Engineering students Muammer Kılçık, Derya Değirmenci, Bahri Erkam Yaylamaz, and Merve Irmak came first in the Helicopter Design Competition, run by TUSAŞ (Turkish Aerospace Inc.), and made a noteworthy achievement.

Their design of a helicopter named “YOUCOP 112” won them first prize in the competition.

The students' helicopter project became the winner at the competition, standing out with its wings optimized for silent flight, tail designed for low noise, environmentally friendly systems for carbon reduction, and design decreasing maintenance cost and duration. In addition to first place, the students were awarded a medal and a gift of ₺30 thousand.

On the other hand, Süleyman Poyraz from Computer Engineering won second place in the Pardus 21 Bug Catching and Suggestion Competition, run by IT Valley.

Poyraz was awarded a medal and ₺7 thousand at the competition, organized to contribute to the development of a national operating system by finding bugs in Pardus 21, the latest edition of Pardus GNU/Linux, and proposing solutions to fix them.

Rector Prof. Cengiz Yilmaz congratulated the students, who came back from TEKNOFEST with awards, and wished them continuing success.
