An open letter from AGU Rector Prof. Dr. Ihsan Sabuncuoglu
Dear Prospective Colleagues,
I welcome you to this section of the university website, where we invite well-qualified fellow professionals to consider working here with us at Abdullah Gül University (AGU). Located in one of the fastest developing cities in Turkey, AGU is a new university with global ambitions. In the first place, it has great ambitions for its students as expressed in its desired graduate profile. Furthermore, it has great ambitions for its faculty members, from whom it will expect commitment creativity and high levels of professionalism, in both teaching and research, at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
In return for such commitment, AGU offers prestige and exciting opportunities to contribute to the setting up of a brand-new institution embodying a vision of university study and academic work for the next generation. According to its vision of empowering people to be connected and productive in a competitive world, AGU will place great emphasis on teaching, on helping learners learn and conduct research, in ways that will prepare its graduates for the real world of scientific and commercial enterprise. The nascent university culture aims to be research-oriented, international in outlook, freethinking, innovative, humanitarian and overall an organisation of which people are proud to be members.
In order to realize its vision to, and to further its ambition to become a world-class university, AGU is prepared to work hard to attract gifted academics with the extra skills and enthusiasm required to build an institution from the ground floor. AGU is unique for a university in Turkey in as much as it is a state institution but one which is backed by significant private funding. This funding is provided by a foundation known as the Abdullah Gül University Support Foundation (AGUV). The upshot is that Abdullah Gül University benefits on the one hand from the stability, security and prestige afforded by State University status and accreditation and on the other from the flexibility for extra resources and special projects afforded by the financial support of the foundation. Abdullah Gül University is the first and currently only university that benefits from a special legal status which has allowed this hybrid of public and private sector enterprise in the field of tertiary education in Turkey. It is hoped that, as a pilot in this initiative, AGU, will serve as an effective model for future university development in this country.
If you believe that you have the requisite skills and experience to contribute to the development of this exciting new university, I cordially invite you to to follow one of the links below in order to find out about specific job opportunities about the specifics of what AGU can offer you and for details of how you might apply and take the first step to becoming a member of the AGU community.
With kind regards,
Prof. Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu Rector
