Abdullah Gul University (AGU, www.agu.edu.tr) invites applications and nominations for the position of the Dean of the Faculty of Life and Natural Sciences

AGU is a newly founded higher-education and reseach institution at the province of Kayseri aiming to attain two major goals: (1) to become one of the leading research universities and knowledge development centers in the selected fields of (a) health and medical biotechnology, (b) energy, (c) entreprenership and innovation, (d) advanced materials, and (e) smart systems and societies; and (2) to design, promote, and lead towards a new philosophy and new structure for higher education institutions worldwide, which emphasize active integration of education, reseach, and societal contribution functions of the university via innovative institutional re-structuring. AGU receives strong support from the AGU Foundation towards achiveving these challenging goals.

While AGU is a state institution, with the support of the AGU Foundation, it has access to private financial support and thereby the means to bring together distinguished academics (AGU has produced the highest number of SCI- and SSCI-indexed publications per faculty member in the last three years in Turkey) and promising students (both national and international) to produce cutting-edge research and ensure highly effective teaching and learning. Having a strong community of international faculty and students within a rich multicultural climate is an integral part of the University's atmosphere.  The medium of instruction at AGU is in English.

The recruitmernt policy at AGU favors entrepreneur-spirited academicians who also have a distinguished academic record.  Faculty members at AGU are therefore expected to be enthusiastic about their teaching and research while at the same time providing a bridge between the business sector and higher education. Similar qualities are expected from the successful candidades for the Dean of the Faculty of Life and Natural Sciences.  The Dean should also have the leadership and communication skills as well as the innovative and visiniory mindset to lead the Faculty and the University toward accomplishing the aforementioned challenging goals.

In the Faculty of Life and Natural Sciences currently there are 12 faculty members associated with one of the three academic departments, namely, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Bioengineering, and Bioinformatics.  According to the strategic plan of the university the faculty is expected to grow rapidly within the next four years. The succesfull candidate for the position is therefore going to be responsible for hiring a large number of new faculty members both at senior and junior levels and also for developing new and innovative programs.  Candidates with a well-developed network in academic circles capable of facilitating the quality and the pace of the Faculty growth will be preferred.

In addition to the regular monthly salary the succesfull candidate will be provided with additional financal support from the AGU Foundation, which will be commensurate with qualifications. The university also offers a benefits package including housing and complementary health insurance.

Applicants for the positions should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of administrative philosophy, and the names, phone numbers and email addresses of three references.  Application materials should be converted into a single PDF file and e-mailed to Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yilmaz, Vice Rector of Abdullah Gul University, at cengiz.yilmaz@agu.edu.tr. All applications will be considered and treated confidentially. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
